Music 101- 3 Credit Recommendations
This course is on Jewish music from Biblical times until the contemporary era, with an emphasis on the relationship between religion and music.
Students should be familiar with different types of Jewish music, such as klezmer and chazzanus, and be able to identify important singers and musicians. In addition, students should demonstrate understanding of how Jewish music, both in the synagogue and outside, has developed and changed over the ages.
Students will be tested by written exam and will also be asked to listen to and identify samples of Jewish music.
